About Me

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my blog. (:

We are currently undergoing some construction, so please bear with me!

Some things you might want to know about me: My name is Rachel. I am 19 years-old. That's right, I am stuck in that purgatory between eighteen and twenty-one. Legally an adult, yet never quite treated as one. I am currently a sophomore in college (it still feels crazy to say that) and attend a university in Illinois where I frequently dress up as the school's mascot. Not joking. I get paid $20 an hour.

My favorite color is blue, but I feel like that is such a Kindergarten answer. I live in Illinois and love it here. It may be corn fields for hours, but it is beautiful to me. The winters can be harsh, and so can the summers. But when it is in-between, the days are perfect. Maybe someday I will leave and make new adventures elsewhere, but for now, I am content in my hometown. Who knows what the future holds.

I love animals, and would like to say they love me too. Its more of a love-hate relationship. Most small dogs don't like me (I swear I'm a nice person). Larger dogs are more my thing. I have a 6 year-old golden retriever named Winston (Winnie for short). Yeah we're kinda best friends. He also thinks he is a lap dog, which is unfortunate, as he weighs 82 pounds. He is, hands down, the smarted damn dog I've ever met. I taught him to carry in the mail, catch treats from his nose, push open the door, and recently taught him some Spanish commands. Right now he only knows sit & speak. I'm taking a French class next semester, so I think that is our next goal. His only weakness is lights. Yeah I know it sounds weird, but its true. We have a later pointer, and he goes crazy trying to catch the damn thing. I'd like to think that he's smart enough to see it, rather than dumb enough not to understand he can't catch it....

I also have a calico cat named Pebbles. We've had her since I was two. Yep she's 17 years young, but is definitely the mama bear. Sometimes she cleans Winston's face just for the heck of it. You would think being that old would make her lose her fire, but a few times a month we find some animal with their head ripped off and missing. Yeah that's her signature. She definitely runs the household. We tend to call her Queenie or Princess, actually when we got her my sister actually designated her Pebbles Princess. I guess it just stuck. We definitely have a love/hate relationship, depending on her mood. She gets kicks out of scaring the shit out of me. And its just me! I swear she acts nice to everyone else, but then attacks me when no one is looking. Sure she has her moments, like when she sits with me while I read. She likes to creep closer and closer until I am forced to move her (see below) But I never forget the demon that still lurks....

Don't mind me trying to read here.

I had a pet turtle named Speedy (might sound ironic, but that sucker was fast). Unfortunately, with frolicking in my backyard we went MIA and was never seen again. As I said, he was fast.

Now here is the reason for my blog. BOOKS! I have a small library in my room with about 215 books (not including my ebook library). I have always dreamed of having a huge library someday in my house. Of course that house was always a mansion, so I'll let ya'll know when that happens. I love reading. Ever since my dad bought me my first Geronimo Stilton book when I was 9 and my mom read Harry Potter to me as I went to sleep, I have been hooked. Then I met Percy Jackson and Jace Wayland, and the rest was history. Books are my escape. Not that I need an escape from my life, but it relaxes me. I enjoy creating the world inside my head. It is just so much better than watching television. Don't get me wrong, I am all for tv. My favorite shows are Grey's Anatomy, Parks & Rec, and The Bachelor (there is just something about reality television that makes me laugh, cringe, and sigh and at once, plus its like a real-life Selection from Kiera Cass's books)

Fantasy is my number one genre. Though I guess the real one is Fiction. I have read only a handful of Non-Fiction, but if it came with a good recommendation then I would give it a try. I am open to trying new things. Just over the past year I dabbled in adult romances and erotica, but it is just not the same as young adult books. So I settled in the middle ground with new adult fantasy. I do have a hard time finding good books at this level, but I am not stickler. I just prefer my books to be more mature. I like sexual tension (but it does't need to be acted upon-but it is preferred), angst, and sometimes a few swear words to spice things up.

I have a love for Darkling characters and badass females with sass. I always accept recommendations and am willing to give any as well. I have read a large number of books and could probably help you find something you will love. Feel free to add me on Goodreads, where I live and breathe! (:

Happy reading!

XO
Rachel
